Growing up and living in Englewood

Rita Russell, candidate for Mayor of Englewood 2025

My family and I moved to Englewood when I was five years old.  I attended Maddox and Cherrelyn Elementary schools, Sinclair Junior High School and graduated from Englewood High School.  I attended Colorado State University, majoring in math and science.  After two years at CSU, I married my husband Dan.  Dan is a USAF veteran and a retired USPS supervisor.  Dan and I have lived in Englewood most of our married life.  We have two children and four amazing grandchildren.

For 20 years, I owned and operated a painting and decorating business, providing a service for many different clients.

I am active in my local church and have volunteered for parachurch organizations.  My work included leadership training and development, as well as curriculum development.

Elected in 2015, I have served 10 years as an At Large City Council member.  During that time, I have served as Mayor Pro Tem and Council liaison to several Boards and Commissions, including the Alliance for Commerce in Englewood and the Malley Trust Fund Board.  Currently I am liaison to the Budget Advisory Committee, the Code Enforcement Advisory Committee, the Water and Sewer Board, and the Retirement Pension Board.

I believe my background has equipped me well to serve as Mayor of Englewood.  I would greatly appreciate your support and your vote!

Rita will work diligently to:

Make Public Safety the #1 priority of City Council

  • Address crime in Englewood to protect residents and business owners
  • Make certain we enforce the laws for the safety and welfare of the people

Limit Additional Density

  • Take a hard look at the recent decisions of City Council that increased density
  • Restore our Home Rule Authority to ensure land use decisions happen at the local level

Improve Aging Infrastructure

  • Address aging infrastructure prior to increasing density
  • Explore the possibility of a moratorium on building until infrastructure is in compliance

“At this time, I would like to thank you again for giving me the honor of representing you these past 10 years as your At Large City Council Member.  And now I would like to ask you for the opportunity to serve you as Mayor of Englewood for the next four years!  “I reaffirm my commitment to being a true servant to the public, to upholding the City Charter, and to representing the needs of our citizens to the best of my ability.”
